I grew up just outside of Compton at the height of the Crips/Bloods gang war.  We used to get guns tossed in our trash cans and backyard every once in a while.

 

When my wife and I got married, my Dad passed away at the wedding.  He was battling pancreatic cancer, and asked if we would move our wedding up about four months.  Of course we agreed, and set it up for the following Tuesday.  It was a full on wedding in my parents' living room with a catered lunch, tuxes, flowers, a photographer, and the whole shebang.  10 minutes after the vows, he fell asleep and never woke up.  We've been married 12 years now.

I use to be a volunteer fire fighter for 8 years. I sang with a medieval madrigal group for a few years. I love history, but medieval the most and am a SCAdian, though not as active with it as I once was.  I use to do heavy list fighting and loved it.I'm pretty quiet, but am into some alternate lifestyle types of things.

Wow, those are some crazy stories!  Glad you  made it safe growing up near Compton.... Sorry about your Dad.  Glad you have a great marriage going though,  I long for that myself.

I know a few members know , most from the raid group but I got married back in January :)  it was long overdue, only took 13 years.

Yeah I used to be religious, not so much anymore. Nothing against religion or anything, just not for me. I still do volunteer work with at risk teens and homeless folks when I get the chance.

On a lighter note, I enjoy Ren fairs a lot and hang with that community here locally. We get together every couple of weeks to go to a local bar which has a great band that does sea shanties, pirate songs, folk music, and geek folk (we have always called it filk). So yeah it's an evening of fun music, good food, good beer, and general geekyness.
