sooo... since we do have some paxies looking forward to this game, might as well see where everyone's standing ;)
edit 17-9-2013
we've created a little Linkshell on Balmung simply called 'Pax'. welcomed are all current and former members of Pax Republica.
we may or may not create a more 'serious' linkshell in the future, depending on the actual response to the game (after all TOR is priority!)
remember, you can join up to 8 Linkshells, but only one Free Company
edit 21-8-2013
Server of choice will be BALMUNG
this is a legacy server, however, you will be able to create a new character
quick recap:
1.x characters have 'remained' and people who played version 1 had the option to transfer to one of the Legacy servers, regardless of them having 'legacy status' or not (legacy is something for people who had a running subscription at a specific time and finished the 'legacy campaign')
new characters can be created on these legacy servers.
unlike FFXI and the first version of FFXIV, ARR has 'regional' servers, meaning there is one datacentre in Japan and one in Canada (for NA/EU)
now to those who have no clue what it's all about:
(the music <3)
and here's a video of the pc vs the ps3 version (watch in HD so the differences are more obvious. on a personal note I think the ps3 version still looks pretty decent, though :P)

Ok.
Ok.....
Ok... I'm not looking to add another mmo to my roster just now. That said:
Square always could rope me in with a beautiful cinematic and the promise of my very own chocobo.

With the giant dragon and all the fiery destruction, sure. It also had PCs at the center of the conflict though, and that gives it a more poignant tone to me. That, and Bahamut>Deathwing. Did you see his freaking wingspan? At around 4:16 when he slowly descends on the party and unfurls those wings, you can feel it.

Oh no I mean this cinematic blew me away. Just noticed a little bit of similarity. With a giant evil dragon breaking imprisonment to completely change the landscape and lead to new content.

No comment on the game as I haven't seen much gameplay, but I want a war ostrich.
Seriously, life, make it happen.

well it's still in beta so it's a little hard to find actual gameplay (the NDA will be sort-of lifted with the start of the beta phase 3 next week, though, so there should be some pouring in) but I'll include one of the pc vs ps3 videos in the OT.
also, yeah. legacy player will actually get some armour-set that will make their chocobos look pretty mean. sadly I don't have legacy status myself so my hope is that theirs is just a special version of something you can get in-game too. lol

I'm pretty pumped for this. When it hits, I'll probably be trading back and forth between it and SWTOR. In the upcoming phase, I'm not sure where I'm gonna be taking my 1.x character for testing. I'm thinking for final release, anyway, I'll be playing on Balmung. We'll see what happens!

cool. Balmung was actually one of the servers I was more drawn to but it's all undecided yet. I really have no idea what to do with my 1.x char (thankfully it's not .that. important since I don't have any class at 50, anyway. lol)

This trailer is part of what pushed me back to fantasy genre and away from SWTOR for now. Playing some WoW biding my time for this release, looks great though I'd like to see some gameplay footage first. I haven't played any FF series since FF7 and I wasn't sure if I'd end up lost on story line but from what I could find looks like it's on it's own storyline.

ew WoW :P
yeah. every final fantasy has nothing to do with the previous - obviously X-II, XII-revenant wings, Crisis Core (prequel to VII) and XIII-2 being the exception ;)
XIV is completely 'independed' game. ARR is simply the revamp. you're basically still in the same world - but everything is different ;)
btw, there's rumours of ARR having some kind of casino and chocobo raising like you could do in VII ;)
and!
the beta phase 3 start is confirmed for the 14th on the japanese twitter page. makes sense considering that they will show quite a bit on the week-end anyway.
videos should be pouring in then (like I said, the NDA will be partially lifted for beta 3 )

lol. yeah. and with the E3 going on right now it's not getting any better.
apparently a new video will be shown either today or tomorrow (there's some confusion thanks to time differences and it being posted on the JP twitter)
did you sign up for the beta? because everyone who did will be allowed into phase 3.
if not, phase 4 is open beta and shouldn't be taking that much longer

I did! I did not realize they were letting everyone in, though. I bet it happens while I'm out of town. XD
