re: Monitor power issues

I have a 7 year old Viewsonic LCD monitor and in the last week it's been having issues when the computer wakes up from sleep mode. The monitor looks likes its powered off and takes 2-3 minutes to fire up even though I can hear the computer running. It's also happened once and awhile on loading screens for SWTOR where it goes black and the power button appears off but it comes back on pretty quickly.

After googling the problem some say its a sign of an almost dead monitor while others say its a power issue. Anyone have a similar experience, I'm not sure if I should be buying a power supply or a monitor.

I've been running a 350W supply since beta and have had no hardware changes since January but the problem started this week.

re: Monitor power issues

I'd have to agree that sounds like the symptoms of an almost dead monitor.. I had one at work that displayed the same problems for a half week and then stopped working entirely.. I hope I'm wrong though, failing hardware is no fun at all.

re: Monitor power issues

With old Viewsonic monitors, there are capacitors that go bad as the monitor gets old. If you so choose, you can replace those and it should be fine.

I had this issue myself with my wife's old monitor that she gave to me as a second monitor. I decided just to get a new monitor and take the viewsonic to be recycled

re: Monitor power issues

You might want to try plugging it into a different pc/laptop/xbox etc to see if it is the monitor

re: Monitor power issues

It was the monitor, I found an old HP 1280X1064 flatscreen it my box of spare parts. It works well enough for now, birthday is next month and my family needed gift ideas.
