Anyone ever upgraded their power supply? Do I need to know anything special?
I measured the area in which my current PSU sits, it looks like 5.5"x3.5"x6". So I'll just need to find a PSU that fits that I guess. I'm looking to get into the 700W-800W range I suppose, to get a top of the line GFX card, unless that's too high?

700-800w power supply should be fine for adding a single graphics card. You can go lower but you limit any future upgrade potential if you do. Just in the last few years graphics cards have almost doubled their power consumption so this is something to keep in mind I'd you only upgrade computers every 5 years. I can answer any specific questions you may have, just hit me up.

Besides the size you also need to make sure it has the proper connectors to power everything in your case (Hard Drives, DVD drive, graphics card, etc.) Take note of what you currently have and make sure your new power supply has at least that many connections.

If I just bought this PC last year, and I buy something else that's new, shouldn't that be a given?

yeah I was wondering the same... I'd assume that an actually better power supply would of course have all the cables I'd need
