re: Welcome our newest Peacekeeper, Crox_Rava!

The application submitted by Crox_Rava is as follows:

Quote:
Please look over this <a>thread</a> before starting your application.

Personal Questions

The following questions are aimed at helping us get to know you better as a person. Please be as detailed as possible, this means that we expect as much information as you can possibly provide us with.

How old are you?:
32

What gender are you?:
Male

What country do you live in?:
USA

What time zone are you in?:
GMT-7:00

Which of the following below would best describe your current occupation?:
N/A

Do you have the ability to pay online fees?:
Yes

What motivates you to contribute and to strive for achievement?:
A variety of things. If we're strictly speaking of gaming, I might be motivated by in-game rewards or achievements or I might simply set out to accomplish a task of my own invention for my own reasons. For example, while playing Batman Arkham Asylum I took it upon myself to look for all of Riddler's challenges without picking up any of his maps, just to see if Riddler would still taunt me when I did eventually pick up the maps.

In life outside of gaming I'm motivated by necessity and hunger, as well as love and duty. Without getting too specific, I am mostly motivated by my faith above all other concerns.

What are your strengths and weaknesses?:
As regards gaming:

Strengths
- a storied history of gaming since my formative years
- will and ability to lead or follow as dictated by rank and situation
- end game experience as DPS and Healing roles
- ability to not "stand in the fire"
- a gift for levity even in stressful situations

Weaknesses:
- Sometime-keyboard turner, in WoW at least. I favor binding my skills to the numpad and have grown comfortable switching between pad and mouse as needed, but I do occasionally backpedal or waddle in circles. It is my intent to correct this old, diehard habit when I start playing Star Wars.
- I feel the need to defend my weaknesses, which may indicate a lack of self-confidence. See above. Happy
- I like to roll alts. A lot.

What interests and activities do you enjoy spending your time on?:
I'm an at-home dad, so my activities mostly revolve around that on a day to day basis. I also enjoy tabletop roleplaying, reading, and keeping in touch with friends abroad.

Pax Republica Questions

These questions are aimed at helping us figure out if you're Pax Republica material, so be as detailed as possible.

How did you hear about Pax Republica?:
Star Wars TOR website

Do you have a tendency to cuss a lot? :
I don't remember the last time an expletive crossed my lips or my keyboard.

How do you deal with stress and new players?:
I literally laugh in the face of adversity, and I believe the mark of a good guild is the ability to integrate new players and train them effectively and respectfully. We were all new once.

What are your expectations of the members and leadership of Pax Republica?:
I expect adherence to the principles outlined in the charter, and that more or less covers it. I expect to have relatively drama-free fun with great people who are also devoted to continually improving their game.

What do you believe you can contribute to Pax Republica's community?:
I do it all. I enjoy both PvP and PvE aspects of the mmorpgs I've played and crafting is just part of the game to me. I am always looking for ways to improve my game. I scour the internet for information, use add-ons to track my performance, and readily accept critical feedback. I keep my cool when the chips are down, and I enjoy helping others.

What was it about Pax Republica that encouraged you to sign up with us, rather than with another guild?:
The charter is well written and well thought out. This is a guild of players who know what they want to accomplish and who are recruiting other players to that end. As much as I enjoy my guild in World of Warcraft, it is a guild of real life friends and we've repeatedly hit roadblocks clearing content. I am looking for a SW TOR guild that will be able to succeed at the game without sacrificing camaraderie. Pax Republica looks to be that guild.

A non-guild member approaches you in game and begins talking smack to you. How do you react?::
If it's I-can-kick-your-butt type smack, I'd just duel them and /bow whatever the outcome. If it's just general obnoxiousness, I'm a quickdraw with my trusty /ignore gun. If it's persistent, truly bad form type behavior I might go so far as to notify their guild leadership. Who knows? Maybe they'll learn the error of their ways.

You're in Ventrilo playing with other members but one member is being annoying, making silly noises and being obnoxious...what do you do? :
I would tolerate it to an extent. If it was REALLY bad I'd probably just mention it to an officer. I don't think a confrontation in the moment would go over well in such a situation.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Questions

What is your SWTOR forum name?:
Khanrava

Have you previously been in another SWTOR guild? If so please include the Guild's name and your experience there.:
Division 6, an Empire PvP guild. I never played with them since TOR hasn't released yet. Their charter was very attractive but I found that the general level of profanity in the forums to be a bit above my threshold. In their favor I have to say they are well organized and friendly, and I wish them well.

Have you ever been kicked from a guild for poor conduct, unruly behavior, or inactivity?:
Negative.

Which of the following interests you most?:
Raiding

Which of the following interests you second most?:
PVP

Which of the following interests you third most?:
Story

In relation to the guild.:
I serve the guild

The following questions are to provide you with a quick insight regarding the trial requirements.

Which class do you intend to play?:
Smuggler

Do you acknowledge that activity is key to our community and that failure to contribute to the community(every week unless on leave of absence) could result in possible removal from the guild?:
Yes

Do you promise to act with maturity, friendliness and courtesy towards all Pax Republica Members?:
Yes

Do you acknowledge that you must complete all the trial requirements given to you by the trial director to become a full member?:
Yes

In the future, what position would you like to hold?:
Regular Member

Is there anything else you would like to include as to why we should accept you as an applicant to Pax Republica?:
I think anything I say here will simply be a retread of this application, but in summary I believe I bring a healthy dose of fun to the table and I am no slouch as a contributing player. I'm enthusiastic about growing a guild and making its name great in whatever server we end up playing.

And lastly, are there any questions about the guild you would like answered?:
I enjoy some light to moderate RP, though a lack of RP is by no means a dealbreaker. Is there any intention for Pax Republica to hold RP events at all?

Also, what is the guild practice for forming raid groups? Is it more of a best-team-on-paper philosophy, or more "bring the player, not the class"?

Congratulations! You've completed our application. While it may have been lengthy it is in the interest of ensuring only those truly dedicated bother applying. All applications are reviewed as soon as possible.

EDIT: Having reviewed the class overviews on the TOR Holonet and considering the race/class combinations available at this time, I think I can reliably commit to a Smuggler Gunslinger. Also, thanks for the swift replies!

re: Welcome our newest Peacekeeper, Crox_Rava!

Thanks for submitting an application!

We'll leave it open for a few hours to get the input of other members and officers, but you've got a definite thumbs-up from me.

To answer a few of your questions... Yes, several of us enjoy RP. Some members have no interest, but I expect there will certainly be at least a few sessions if our past experiments with play-by-post and the like are any indication. Can't promise much, but I'll certainly be rooting for something!

We're still in the planning phases regarding raid groups. We've discussed it back and forth at length and have yet to come to a hard conclusion - lots of it depends on what kind of game we're going to get. Since it's beginning to look like it will be "necessary" to have a fair bit of class diversity in some of the flashpoints, we'll take that into consideration. Well, that block of text didn't accomplish much, did it? The best answer I have is that we don't know yet, but we're open for input! Probably a mix of each depending on the night/event/people on.

One final thing to touch on... We pride ourselves on maturity, as highlighted in the Charter. That said, some of our members make more use of profanity than others. I'd doubt the forums will be much of an issue but if your application is accepted I'd highly encourage you to spend some time with us in Ventrilo to assure we're a good fit. I'm not a big fan of expletives myself and generally don't have a problem, but it's certainly something I made a definite attempt to assess when I joined!

I like the application, though I'm now wondering if he does taunt.

Just to add to what Travis said about raiding, we do have a good number of players that are keen to do well at the PvE aspect of this game. I think our PvP moto best fits the approach which is casual but with a hardcore determination.

Trial Phase 1: Done
Trial Phase 2: Underway
Voting Phase: Underway

Welcome to your trial process for Pax Republica! During this trial you will have 7 days, starting 3/13/2011 and ending 3/20/2011, to complete seven tasks as part of Trial Phase 1. Trial Phase 2 will consist of another 7 days in which, if you haven't done so already, you must complete the eighth and ninth task and take the time to see how well you fit into our community. Voting will take place toward the middle of Phase 2.

As you undergo these tasks, you will not only complete the steps necessary to become a fully functioning member of Pax, you'll also learn if Pax is the guild you actually want to join.

At the end of this trial your application will be re-evaluated for the final decision. Do not hesitate to send me a private message, email, or MSN message with any questions or concerns. Here are your tasks:

Phase 1

1. You must make 15 posts in our forums (note: please keep your posts meaningful). Done

2. You must update your profile here at Pax with an Avatar. Done

3. You must make an introductory thread in your specified class forum provided below. Done

4. You must PM the Consul, Arbiters or Envoys (that includes Trial Directors like me) and give them the necessary info for creating your Ventrilo account. You need to PM your desired name and password. Here is a link to a helpful thread with sig and Vent info. PM me when this is completed Done

http://www.pax-republica.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5374994&gid=118791

5. Go over our Rules and Regulations thread and be sure to post that you accept them. Here is a link to the thread: Done

http://www.pax-republica.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=5380800&gid=118791

6. You must arrange an interview with the Consul, Arbiter, Trial Director, or a Class Captain via a PM. The interview must be conducted in Ventrilo before your trial period is up. PM me when this is completed Done

Loved the app, good luck on the trial.
Couple questions though:
You said you were a stay at home dad? Just curious if you could expound on that, or maybe what you used to do in the past?
and

Sometime-keyboard turner

Can you elaborate? I haven't heard that phrase before. Thanks!

re: Welcome our newest Peacekeeper, Crox_Rava!

By sometime-keyboard turner I mean that I sometimes use my mouse to turn/steer and I sometimes use my WASD keys. There are many in the WoW community who frown upon "keyboard turning" and are quick to flame/call out those of us who sometimes move about that way. I wanted to convey that while you will indeed see me keyboard turning from time to time, I also know how to spin about quickly with my mouse.

Regarding my being a stay at home parent, my family moved from Texas to the Seattle area a year ago. In Texas I worked at Starbucks, so of course I expected to transfer to a new location easily when I arrived in the birthplace of the entire company. Believe it or not, there was not one position to be had in a fifty mile radius of my new home. The thing is, I was only working at Starbucks for the excellent insurance benefits since they were better and more affordable than my wife's job provided.

Now my wife is a speech therapist. She's in high demand and makes enough for both of us. Furthermore, at her new job here she has a more attractive benefits package than the one Starbucks offers. Childcare is more expensive here, so even if there had been a job for me we would have lost money if we put our two kids (2 and 4) in daycare. We reasoned that I should just stay home and give a personal touch to their upbringing until our oldest goes to school, at which point it will again make sense for me to have such a job.

A wild Crox_Rava appears.

Thanks! I'd have knocked Phase 2 out already but my little boy was sick last week so I couldn't make the TF2 game. I will remedy this forthwith.

Thanks for shooting guys with me in TF2 today! I think I'm getting the hang of it after a few solid hours. And sage advice like "If you are red, shoot the blue guys" helps more than you'd think. Sorry for all the stray bullets. Happy
