re: Congratulations to our newest peacekeeper, Maskedshini!

The application submitted by Maskedshini is as follows:

Quote:
***Please look over this >>>> thread <<<< before starting your application.*** Before we get started, did you read the "How to Join PR thread" (linked above), and do you understand our application/Trial system? (It is mandatory to do so to be accepted!): Yes Age?: 22 Gender: Male Where are you from?: Denmark What is your main character's in-game name?: GreyShini Which is the AC for your main character?: Gunslinger What level is your main character at this time?: 60 What interests and activities do you enjoy spending your time on both in and out of game?: SWTOR speaks to my love of both Roleplaying games, as well as the Star wars universe. IG I spend my time on PvE content, as PvP isn't my strongest side. I enjoy the challenges that comes with Hard mode, while generally being casual as to their outcome. I will give it my all while in it, but failing doesn't mean anything much to me.

IRL I'm a student, studying computer science, and have a passions for both hardware and software. Which is why I end up spending much of my free time playing games, or programming strange stuff. When not playing games or writting code, I enjoy both reading, and watching perhaps an unhealthy amount of netflix series. How did you hear about Pax Republica?: One of your members, Oyo What was it about Pax Republica that encouraged you to sign up with us, rather than with another guild?: I prefer to stick to being where people I already know are, in this case Oyo and Aýa. Reading through your rules I come to respect your goals for open and honest dealings with each other, and in general your attitude towards both new players as well as veterans. I believe in a friendly and easy at Atmosphere will bring people together as a family that will stick with each other and have a great time doing what they enjoy. Do you consider yourself a hardcore player, casual player, or somewhere in-between?: Somewhere in-between. Are you currently a member of any SWTOR Republic guild? You can not join us if you're in another Republic guild.: No Have you ever been kicked from a guild for poor conduct, unruly behavior, or inactivity?: No Which of the following interests you most?: PvE Which of the following interests you second most?: Story Which of the following interests you third most?: Crafting When you've been in a guild a long time, do you usually stay a regular member, or do you end up in/aspire to be in a leadership position?: Regular Member The following questions are to provide you with a quick insight regarding the trial requirements. Do you acknowledge that activity is key to our community and that failure to contribute to the community(every week unless on leave of absence) could result in possible removal from the guild?: Yes Do you promise to act with maturity, friendliness and courtesy towards all Pax Republica Members... and other SWTOR players?: Yes Do you acknowledge that you must complete all the trial requirements given to you by the Pax Republica Officers to become a full member?: Yes True or False: You will re-visit the forums often over the next two weeks as you go through the Trials.: True Is there anything else you would like to include as to why we should accept you as an applicant to Pax Republica?: As read from the how to join thread, with the matter of forum name being different from character name. a general note will be that all but one of my characters will be named by a prefix, followed by Shini (The same as my forum name). Are there any questions about the guild you would like answered?: If possible, would it be possible to get some more detailed information as towards you rules on inactivity. Being a student I will have periods where my time with be extremely limited (Large assignments, Exams, etc.) What's the proceadure in these case, as long as I put a warning that I will be limited as to my abilities to get IG. Once again to ensure you know how things work: "I read the "How to Join PR thread" (linked above), and I understand Pax's application/Trial system, activity rules, etc.": True

re: Congratulations to our newest peacekeeper, Maskedshini!

Hello MaskedShlnl, Welcome to our little nook in the galaxy  :)

Your stock ticks up a few points for looking at our Charter and our goals ahead of your application, and up even more points for asking questions about them!

Others, more senior than I, will certainly chime in about the activity requirements.  All of us have a life outside the game, and at times it can get pretty hectic. RL should ALWAYS come first!! In your case your school should absolutely take priority over gaming with us. If you blew off tests to RAID, we would probably grief you quite a bit if we found out (Of course it woudl be after you helped us clear the boss..... that we couldn't beat unless you were there..... and the loot was distributed..... and you better not have won the roll for the piece I wanted!!!  hehe).

BUT… that being said One of the many things that makes Pax Republica special in my eyes is the people, and the closeness the activity requirements help to foster. Imagine carpooling every day (wait do you guys carpool in Denmark?) Okay assuming you do, imagine sharing the car for a 3 weeks out of the month with the same 3 people, but every once in a while a 4th shows up for one day. Days when that 'stranger' are there alters the chemistry of the ride a bit. Maybe it's more quiet in the car, less talking, or more tense, could be better could be worse, but definitely unfamiliar.

That is what Pax Republica wants to avoid. That inside vs outside feeling. We want everyone on the inside. It is very easy, especially in gaming, to feel like you were left behind, or that you aren't with the 'in' crowd. It is a great feeling after coming home after a weeks vacation, logging in and folks being happy to see me. Folks messaging me wondering where I was for an event, not because of the 'activity requirements' but rather they missed my company. The more active you are, the more people know you. The more people know you, the more people missed you. You don't want to be someone nobody misses hehe.

We would rather have 30 members total who are all active in the guild than 100 members with only 30 active. So we have several mechanisms for maintainin 'good status' with the guild to cover most situations.  I am sure others will talk about them as well as ask you questions to find out more about you.

I'm Iolo'Pax  (ee-yo-lo). My Pax in my name was there long before I ever joined, so 'don't you be thinkin' I run this place. I am actually one of the newer members, with no autority or influence whatsoever...  but really wish I would have discovered this group sooner. Hopefully what we offer is not only something you like, but something you will want to contribute to making even better.

PvP  as a gunslinger is a rough way to be exposed to it IMO. I am for sure no master, but in arena matches I am lucky to get a shot off when I use mine. I thought 3.3 would help me enjoy him better, but alas twas not meant to be.

How long have you played SWTOR? Do you play any other MMOs? You are a Star Wars fan.. and I generally ask all fans I meet this: 456123 or 123456?

re: Congratulations to our newest peacekeeper, Maskedshini!

Iolo did  a amazing job at explaining things, thank you :). With everything he said I only will like to add one thing , when you do need to take a week or two off we only ask of one thing from you and that is to fill out a LOA explaining why and how long you will be out of game. We even have a forum post just for those who are only taking a week out of game for RL events and such. The activity check also includes being on the website. We post so much info on our website and even some funny post to put some giggles on everyone face.     I do have one question, you said you joined because Aya and Oyo are in the guild (both have been great new members and lots of fun) we do like our members to get to know everyone and equal enjoy playing with everyone. We try to avoid getting groups of friends together because they tend to only hang out with each other without getting to know how amazing the whole guild is and sometimes that causing drama which is a no no here. With that being said my question being. Are you up for hanging out with everyone and enjoying making lots of amazing friends ? I can say first hand meeting everyone in this guild even the new members has been a wonderful experience for me and each of them has put many smiles on my face and I hope the same cab be done for you . ( I apologize if I have so many mistakes in my post, typing from the phone is more hard than I thought it would be)

Well said everything above is.  :)  I have to say that Iolo'pax got one thing wrong:  He DOES have authority and influence.  He is a Peacekeeper, a respected rank among us.   Our guild is kind of like the 300, we're more like a Phalanx than a pyramid of power.  Everyone who passes the trials has earned our respect and is supposed to Keep the Peace of the guild (make sure everything goes smoothly... not just officers!)

We look forward from hearing back from you!

Good to know you'll keep me on a short leash.

Carpooling isn't a thing as integrated as it is in the US with separate lanes and such for it. But I have been in some situations where this is a thing, for a time one of my classmates lived in the same area as me, and I'd pay roughly a dollar each day for a ride. But I get your point :)

That is what Pax Republica wants to avoid. That inside vs outside feeling. We want everyone on the inside. It is very easy, especially in gaming, to feel like you were left behind, or that you aren't with the 'in' crowd. The more people know you, the more people missed you. You don't want to be someone nobody misses hehe.

I completely understand, and I do wish to get to know each and every one of you if possible. The better I know you, the more I can bother you if you're suddenly missing

We would rather have 30 members total who are all active in the guild than 100 members with only 30 active. So we have several mechanisms for maintainin 'good status' with the guild to cover most situations.  I am sure others will talk about them as well as ask you questions to find out more about you.

As above, if you spell my name incorrectly, I reserve the right to do the same.

PvP  as a gunslinger is a rough way to be exposed to it IMO. I am for sure no master, but in arena matches I am lucky to get a shot off when I use mine. I thought 3.3 would help me enjoy him better, but alas twas not meant to be.

I'll take your word for it, PvP is not something I'm in to though, and honestly I have not had a single PvP match on SWTOR yet.

How long have you played SWTOR? Do you play any other MMOs? You are a Star Wars fan.. and I generally ask all fans I meet this: 456123 or 123456?

Personally I started playing SWTOR back when it went F2P, mainly because I dont like the concept of P2P, feels ultimately like they're locked your account behind a paywall until you pay up. Back then I played for roughly 4 months, and then stopped because I lost interest and went on to other games, combined with a large increase in my school assignments at the time.

I play other MMO's on an on/off basis, mostly when nostalgia hits or some new content has been released. I do pride myself of having played WoW for a wooping 15 minutes! :P

Wait, there's 1,2, and 3? (Jokes aside, I will normally watch them in 456123 order, cause story > SFX)

I came because Oyo mainly was bugging me to :P, just kidding he asked me if I was interested and I went to take a look. Normally I try and stay away from guilds because of bad experiences in the past with people turning on each other because of IRL problems and difference of opinions.

As also said above, I came because Oyo told me to take a look, and I like what I've found, I'd love to get to know all of you and spend some quality time playing a game I love with people I can get to know that treat each other as family rather than merely "guild-mates", I've already been in your TS for a little bit while doing some HM FP with some of you, so a few of you know of me.

re: Congratulations to our newest peacekeeper, Maskedshini!

Welcome to your trial process for Pax Republica! Let's get started:

During this welcoming period you will have 14 days to complete some tasks that will acclimate you into the guild and help you decide if we are the right guild for you!

Then, there will be three days for guild members to vote on whether or not they believe you should be allowed to join.  Virtually no one gets voted no... usually by then someone that doesn't fit in has already been asked to end their trials.

(If you need your Trial to be extended a couple of days due to a trip, or a serious emergency, etc., please contact an Admin and be sure to let them know when you'll be back.)

If you have any questions during any phase of your trials, a lot of helpful information can be found HERE.

Please post in your thread whenever you complete a task.

Here are your tasks:

Complete √ 1. Update your profile here at Pax Republica with a forum Avatar. ***NOTE***- Your avatar cannot be one of the generic default avatars that GuildLaunch gives you. It should be something unique so that it's easier to associate your name with some kind of image, this allows us to get to know you better.

Complete √ 2. Make an introductory post in your specified class forum provided below. Please use it as a chance to introduce yourself to the family, as this is a more permanent area for people to get to know you (your own "personal area" on the forums, if you will) than your application thread.

Trooper Barracks - Smuggler Cantina - Consular Library - Knight Praxeum

Complete √ 3. Either your Guild Launch user name should be your "main" character name in SWTOR, or you should link your main character to your GL account, so that when people see your profile name and avatar on the forums, they also see your most often played character in SWTOR so they can learn who you are. Here's how to do the latter:

  •  Click on your name at the top right of the forums and hit "View Your Profile" in the pull-down menu.
  •  See over to the right where it says "Stats"?  Click the link that says "Characters".
  •  You may see a list of characters you've created on Guild Launch.  If you have already created a SWTOR character with the name for your most commonly played SWTOR character (your main), go to the next step.  If not... click Add In-Game Info.  Fill out the fields to create your character.
  •  Now that your character is made, go to that character and there should be a blue link that says "Site Membership".  It may be hard to see.  Look closely and click it.
  •  For the website of Pax Republica, you need two green check marks for "Show on Roster" and "Make Primary".  You may have to click Add and Make Primary to do this.
  •  You should be finished!  Double Check by looking at your posts on these forums.  You should see your forum name, then above it should be your main character name.  If this does not work, please ask Nwahs or an officer for help.

Complete √ 4. Go over our Charter (our Rules and Regulations document) and be sure to post that you accept it. Please read it carefully BEFORE accepting. Click here.

Complete √ 5. Log on to SWTOR and whisper anyone of rank Justicar or above with your in-game name so we can add you to the guild. For a list of our rank structure and names of officers, please Click here.

Complete √ 6. Arrange and interview with an officer. The interview with be conducted in Teamspeak. The interview gives you the chance to meet with an officer and ask any questions you may have regarding your membership in the guild, and they will take the opportunity to get to know you better.

For a complete list of officers you can approach for an interview, Click here. It is YOUR responsibility to post in your trials thread that you need an interview and to let officers know what your schedule is so that they can offer to help you... or you can PM an officer to schedule your interview before Phase 1 is over. Please don't leave this until the last minute.

Complete √ 7. Group with Pax Republica members to complete 3 guild "missions". You must be in Teamspeak during these missions. A single mission is either:

  1. Two GSF battles
  2. One Flashpoints
  3. Two Warzones
  4. Half a PvE Raid (In other words, one raid attendance counts as two of these "missions")
  5. 30-45minutes of any other in-game activity (questing, etc.)

(Note: It is up to you to post here the different "missions" you completed and who was in the group(s).) The point of this step is to get in groups with Pax members to get to know them, and for them to get to know you!

► Voting Phase

8. Members will have 3 days to vote on whether you have passed or failed as a member, so sit back and relax!

While you wait to pass your trials, you should check out the entire forums if you haven't already.  If you're a raider, be sure to read all the PvE forums - raiding guidelines, DPS parses, etc.  You should post in the PvE forums a thread saying you're interested in raiding with your time availability, current gear level, class, talent spec, how many datacrons you've collected, if you have companion bonuses, etc. Same thing with PvP or GSF... post in those forums with similar information if you're interested!

This is also a time you can ask around about how to join our Pax Republica Facebook Group and our Pax Republica GroupMe Channels.

Good luck!e giving you something for free!

re: Congratulations to our newest peacekeeper, Maskedshini!

Ooops on your name. I copied and pasted it, but it is putting caps on them for some reason.  Checking my uptime on my computer, it hadn't been restarted in 119 days, so i guess it was bound to do something silly. I actually didn't notice it untill i typed in my username from work (which also has i's in it) and I wasn't getting any characters.

It is funny that happened though, I do get called Lolo all the time. I respond to pretty much anything...even Bob  ;)

Task 2 has been completed

Task 3 has been done, but apparently there's some problems, I put my char name in brackets on my forum name for now.

Task 4 has been completed

Bokkan,  Oyo and I are merely friends, I'm nowhere near as crazy as he is. . . that is. . . unless you force me to go there

What kind of problems did you come across with step 3?  I tried going through step 3 last week to ensure that they were very easy to follow directions.  So what kind of problems came up exactly?

I have followed the instructions, but the name of my character doesn't display

Edit: And now there's more trouble, I tried deleting the character, and remaking it, but it seems that messed up the sites database. It claims that the character is in the roster, and that I should be able to claim it, but when I click the roster it doesn't show :/

Nice to see you applied Shini. Welcome and goodluck with application. I will see to help you with guild missions. If you see Bok Bok around don't start to talk about speeders and mounts.

Maskedshini/Greyshini has completed his interview, did a tactical with Marilin, and joined for our very successful SM Ravagers! It was awesome!
