re: Congrats to our newest Peackeeper, Synaes!

The application submitted by Synaes is as follows:

Quote:
***Please look over this >>>> thread <<<< before starting your application.*** Before we get started, did you read the "How to Join PR thread" (linked above), and do you understand our application/Trial system? (It is mandatory to do so to be accepted!): Yes Age?: 38 Gender: Male Where are you from?: Pennsylvania What is your main character's in-game name?: Ashas Which is the AC for your main character?: Guardian What level is your main character at this time?: 60 What interests and activities do you enjoy spending your time on both in and out of game?: In Game: I've really only participated in PvE and just leveling/dailies at that. In other games, I've generally enjoyed a bit of everything (raiding, pvp, pve, achievement hunting, etc)

Out of game: I have 3 young kids and enjoy daily attempts to not ruin the rest of their life. If you ask them, I have a mixed track record on this. How did you hear about Pax Republica?: Saw members in game and in reading the guild recruitment forum. What was it about Pax Republica that encouraged you to sign up with us, rather than with another guild?: I've been considering joining a guild for a bit, however, I didn't want to join one just to 'check a box' as it were. I've been looking at the various guild names I saw in game and checking out guild web sites. Pax Republica seems to have the 'personality' I was looking for in a guild..if that makes sense. Honestly, I think Iolo'pax's post, in your guild recruitment thread, echos a lot of my thoughts and was the final push to get me to apply. Do you consider yourself a hardcore player, casual player, or somewhere in-between?: Casual-to-In between (as much as family/work permit at least) Are you currently a member of any SWTOR Republic guild? You can not join us if you're in another Republic guild.: No Have you ever been kicked from a guild for poor conduct, unruly behavior, or inactivity?: No Which of the following interests you most?: PvE Which of the following interests you second most?: GSF Which of the following interests you third most?: PvP When you've been in a guild a long time, do you usually stay a regular member, or do you end up in/aspire to be in a leadership position?: Regular Member The following questions are to provide you with a quick insight regarding the trial requirements. Do you acknowledge that activity is key to our community and that failure to contribute to the community(every week unless on leave of absence) could result in possible removal from the guild?: Yes Do you promise to act with maturity, friendliness and courtesy towards all Pax Republica Members... and other SWTOR players?: Yes Do you acknowledge that you must complete all the trial requirements given to you by the Pax Republica Officers to become a full member?: Yes True or False: You will re-visit the forums often over the next two weeks as you go through the Trials.: True Is there anything else you would like to include as to why we should accept you as an applicant to Pax Republica?: Honestly, given the solo nature of my SWTOR experience thus far, I'm not really sure what to put here. There will be gaps in my knowledge (tactics, rotation, etc) when it comes to group content, but I consider myself to be a fairly adaptable person and hope to make a positive contribution. Are there any questions about the guild you would like answered?: I think guild information is pretty well documented from what I've seen. I'll be sure to post/ask if I think of anything though. Once again to ensure you know how things work: "I read the "How to Join PR thread" (linked above), and I understand Pax's application/Trial system, activity rules, etc.": True

re: Congrats to our newest Peackeeper, Synaes!

I'm glad Iolo'pax has helped us recruit someone, he's a great guy and I think he is the model new pax member :)

Welcome!  You have a great application.  So, what are your goals for the game?  End-game raiding?  PvP?  Just having fun?

re: Congrats to our newest Peackeeper, Synaes!

I thought I replied to this earlier this morning, but in the mayhem that is the "no school/summer morning routine" I did not notice the captcha...That's the kind of attention to detail you have to look forward to....

At any rate, taking another crack at this...

My goals in-game largely fall under the umbrella of "Just having fun". That's not to say I wouldn't be serious about any particular activity mind you, but that my experience in SWTOR has been predominately solo and, as such, I feel I've only really experienced a small portion of the fun the game has to offer. As such, 'just having fun' covers a lot of ground.

Content aside, I also feel I probably haven't learned my class mechanics all that great. This would be especially so when looking at synergy (it's the middle of the work day, I can use buzzwords!) between classes.

If you haven't guessed, this response is all about pointing out what a great player I am. How's it working? (j/k)

Unrelated: I tried following the steps to change my 'post as name' to be my character name, but not having much luck. The PR site is not showing up in the sites list on my profile and I was under the impression that is where I would need to update the setting. Let me know if I am just being thick or this is expected at  this point.

Thanks

re: Congrats to our newest Peackeeper, Synaes!

Welcome to your trial process for Pax Republica! Let's get started:

During this welcoming period you will have 14 days to complete some tasks that will acclimate you into the guild and help you decide if we are the right guild for you!

Then, there will be three days for guild members to vote on whether or not they believe you should be allowed to join.  Virtually no one gets voted no... usually by then someone that doesn't fit in has already been asked to end their trials.

(If you need your Trial to be extended a couple of days due to a trip, or a serious emergency, etc., please contact an Admin and be sure to let them know when you'll be back.)

If you have any questions during any phase of your trials, a lot of helpful information can be found HERE.

Please post in your thread whenever you complete a task.

Here are your tasks:

Complete √ 1. Update your profile here at Pax Republica with a forum Avatar. ***NOTE***- Your avatar cannot be one of the generic default avatars that GuildLaunch gives you. It should be something unique so that it's easier to associate your name with some kind of image, this allows us to get to know you better.

Complete √ 2. Make an introductory post in your specified class forum provided below. Please use it as a chance to introduce yourself to the family, as this is a more permanent area for people to get to know you (your own "personal area" on the forums, if you will) than your application thread.

Trooper Barracks - Smuggler Cantina - Consular Library - Knight Praxeum

Complete √ 3. Either your Guild Launch user name should be your "main" character name in SWTOR, or you should link your main character to your GL account. Here's how to do the latter:

  •  Go to User Profile (Your name) at the top right of the forums.
  •  Under Characters tab, go to Add Character, make sure you choose ToR for your game and The Galactic Republic as your faction. Create the name as your main character's name in SWTOR!
  •  Now that your character has been created, go to the Sites tab under User Profile.
  •  Under Forum Posting As Settings select your character and click Set Character to Post As.
  •  Finished!

Complete √4. Go over our Charter (our Rules and Regulations document) and be sure to post that you accept it. Please read it carefully BEFORE accepting. Click here.

Complete √5. Log on to SWTOR and whisper anyone of rank Justicar or above with your in-game name so we can add you to the guild. For a list of our rank structure and names of officers, please Click here.

6. Arrange and interview with an officer. The interview with be conducted in Teamspeak. The interview gives you the chance to meet with an officer and ask any questions you may have regarding your membership in the guild, and they will take the opportunity to get to know you better.

For a complete list of officers you can approach for an interview, Click here. It is YOUR responsibility to post in your trials thread that you need an interview and to let officers know what your schedule is so that they can offer to help you... or you can PM an officer to schedule your interview before Phase 1 is over. Please don't leave this until the last minute.

Complete √7. Group with Pax Republica members to complete 3 guild "missions". You must be in Teamspeak during these missions. A single mission is either:

  1. Two GSF battles
  2. Two Flashpoints
  3. Two Warzones
  4. Half a PvE Raid (In other words, one raid attendance counts as two of these "missions")
  5. An hour of any other in-game activity (questing, etc.)

(Note: It is up to you to post here the different "missions" you completed and who was in the group(s).) The point of this step is to get in groups with Pax members to get to know them, and for them to get to know you!

► Voting Phase

8. Members will have 3 days to vote on whether you have passed or failed as a member, so sit back and relax!

While you wait to pass your trials, you should check out the entire forums if you haven't already.  If you're a raider, be sure to read all the PvE forums - raiding guidelines, DPS parses, etc.  You should post in the PvE forums a thread saying you're interested in raiding with your time availability, current gear level, class, talent spec, how many datacrons you've collected, if you have companion bonuses, etc. Same thing with PvP or GSF... post in those forums with similar information if you're interested!

This is also a time you can ask around about how to join our Pax Republica Facebook Group and our Pax Republica GroupMe Channels.

Good luck!

re: Congrats to our newest Peackeeper, Synaes!

Hello Synaes, Welcome to Pax Republica!!! I am glad my post could inspire you to apply. I really don't think you will be disappointed.

I love your line in your application about trying your best daily to not ruin the rest of your kid's lives. My goal it to just keep her mental therapy bills in a ballpark I can afford. ;)

I see you are from PA!! I live in IL, but I usually visit PA once a year to catch a Pens game.

I won't be in game till tomorrow, but I jump in and out the forums a lot while at work during the day. Not sure what hours you are able to log in, but I know there are many Paxians who are online after the family is put to bed.

Tomorrow night I think there is a 'gear up' raid on the calendar. I have to double check the time with Nwahs (it says 1am Central for me, but I don't think that's right but ya never know). That is good chance to mingle with us, potentially get an upgrade for your gear AND take care of some of your trial requirements.

Not to overwhelm you all at once, but I also encourage you to try out Teamspeak with us too. Even if you aren't a talker (I wasn't until I got comfortable with some folks). When I first started going on the raids it was a lifesaver for me as instructions from the Team leader are much easier over the headset/speakers than over chat, especially for focusing damage.

I will chat you up more on your Introduction thread when you make it.

Once again Welcome  :)

re: Congrats to our newest Peackeeper, Synaes!

Thanks Iolo'pax. I will add 'keep mental therapy bills affordable' to my list of RL dailies. :)

As I said, I was pushed to finally apply after reading your post. I saw a lot of parallels in the way you describe yourself, your play style, and even your approach toward picking a guild.

As far as voice chat, I'm certainly not adverse to using it and have used it for raiding/pvp in other games. I just tend to listen more then I speak is all.

Otherwise, I posted an intro which gives more info about me and when I'm usually on: http://pax-republica.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10929935&gid=118791

Thanks again for your initial post in the recruitment forums and look forward to seeing you around.

re: Congrats to our newest Peackeeper, Synaes!

Nwahs,

I tried to hit you up for an invite last night, but must have caught you AFK. By the time I went to hit you up again, it looked like a number of you were in a raid so figured I will try again this evening (and will cast a wider net).

I read http://pax-republica.guildlaunch.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10930478&gid=118791 so let me know if there is anything additional I should be doing as a precaution. I can certainly understand approaching everything with a bit of paranoia after something like that. For any other EvE players in the guild, the scenario is probably not an unfamiliar one. ;)

Otherwise, I read and accepted the charter, so #4 is done.

Sorry about that Synaes, you're fine, just keep on and carry on :)  We'll invite you ASAP.  You should get into teamspeak so that someone can confirm that you are whom you say you are, but that isn't even necessary with Trainees since Trainees can do nothing but add to our guild bank.

re: Congrats to our newest Peackeeper, Synaes!

Tiffs took care of the guild invite this evening and I hopped on the TS server. After a bit of user error, got the mic working.

I was a bit worn out after a long day, so apologies for not being very social/vocal this evening. I look forward to grouping with, and getting to know, you guys in the coming week or so.

Just a friendly reminder, post here as you complete things for the trial - I'll check it every few days to 'checkmark' them on the list!

well, 4 and 5 have been done. I was hoping to make some progress on 7 before setting up the interview (6), but will go ahead and hit up someone in game to schedule that. Thanks.

re: Congrats to our newest Peackeeper, Synaes!

Regarding #7:

Spent some time in GSF with Iolo'Pax, Oyo, and Tyon'ka this evening. Had a great time learning quite a bit as today was my first time hitting GSF. We seem to have won more then we lost and were able to knock out the GSF Weekly for conquest. I'll definitely be hitting GSF much more (and self-destructing less...hopefully).

Afterwards Iolo'pax and I hit the Blackhole weekly for MOAR CONQUEST!.

All-in-all, it was a really fun evening with some great conversation. Now, on top of reading up on tanking, I have some GSF reading to do courtesy of Tyon'ka. This game is producing a lot of homework! :)
