re: Congrats to our newest Peacekeeper, Cyparissus!!

The application submitted by Apeilon is as follows:

Quote:

***Please look over this >>>> thread <<<< before starting your application.***

Before we get started, did you read the "How to Join PR thread" (linked above), and do you understand our application/Trial system? (It is mandatory to do so to be accepted!):
Yes

Age?: 23

Gender:
Male

Where are you from?:
Chicago

What is your main character's in-game name?:

Cyparissus

Which is the AC for your main character?:
Gunslinger

What level is your main character at this time?:
11

What interests and activities do you enjoy spending your time on both in and out of game?:
In game I enjoy pretty much everything, from PvP to just exploring. I enjoy story content as well. In other MMOs I also enjoyed raiding content and things similar to that. Basically, I enjoy just about every aspect of an MMO, so long as I'm playing with other people. Basically I enjoy the social aspect. When not playing video games in general, I pretty much just watch TV, play tabletop RPGs, program, etc. Generally I prefer social activities. Hiking is super fun, particularly ultra-light hiking. A short-term goal of mine is hiking across the Western Highlands in Scotland when I get some free time.

How did you hear about Pax Republica?:
I went to the forums and found a "guild questionaire" thingy.

What was it about Pax Republica that encouraged you to sign up with us, rather than with another guild?:
You have pretty stringent activity requirements in addition to a reasonably sized user base, which means I should actually have people to play with and talk to. Basically exactly what I'm looking for. You also don't have like 4000 members, which lends to a more familiar feel. When I played EVE, the best Corporations were the ones sub 100 members. The large mega-alliances got incredibly boring incredibly fast. Plus, you don't have the crazy MUST BE AVAILABLE 24/7 requirements of super-hardcore guilds. You seem to strike a nice balance between making sure people are alive and not demanding all available free time.

Do you consider yourself a hardcore player, casual player, or somewhere in-between?:
In-between.

Are you currently a member of any SWTOR Republic guild? You can not join us if you're in another Republic guild.:
No

Have you ever been kicked from a guild for poor conduct, unruly behavior, or inactivity?:
Nope! Though I voluntarily left a guild because I wasn't planning on playing for a while before.

Which of the following interests you most?:
Socializing

Which of the following interests you second most?:
Exploring

Which of the following interests you third most?:
PvP

When you've been in a guild a long time, do you usually stay a regular member, or do you end up in/aspire to be in a leadership position?:
Regular Member

The following questions are to provide you with a quick insight regarding the trial requirements.

Do you acknowledge that activity is key to our community and that failure to contribute to the community(every week unless on leave of absence) could result in possible removal from the guild?:
Yes

Do you promise to act with maturity, friendliness and courtesy towards all Pax Republica Members... and other SWTOR players?:
Yes

Do you acknowledge that you must complete all the trial requirements given to you by the Pax Republica Officers to become a full member?:
Yes

True or False: You will re-visit the forums often over the next two weeks as you go through the Trials.:
True

Is there anything else you would like to include as to why we should accept you as an applicant to Pax Republica?:
I enjoy contributing to communities! I type like a madman and enjoy civil discourse. I'm generally not the best at PvP, though I occasionally am a MVP. I've played SWTOR before and got to level 36 before life commitments got in the way, and am currently starting over so that I can enjoy the storyline so don't let the low character level fool you (though admittedly 36 isn't a particularly high level).

Aside from being a good team player, I have a fair amount of previous MMO experience, most of it within EVE where I performed pretty much every role imaginable, including a fairly good amount of PvP, from solo hunting pirates and pirate-like fellows in lowsec to giant hideously boring alliance wars out in the deep reaches of null. While in EVE I certainly have an... affinity for the particular stereotypes of EVE players, I am also aware that an MMO like SWTOR requires a considerably different type of attitude (and I'm not a jerk, so I adapt to the community standards of the community).

Are there any questions about the guild you would like answered?:
Nothing in particular, though I'm sure as the process goes on I will have questions.

Once again to ensure you know how things work: "I read the "How to Join PR thread" (linked above), and I understand Pax's application/Trial system, activity rules, etc.":
True

EDIT: So I do have a question - I take it there have been movements to the Ebon Hawk server? I have a free transfer or whatever so it ain't no thang, but I'm currently on the Prophecy of the Five or whatever server.

2nd Edit: These captchas are literally torture.

Welcome Apeilon!!

I think you hit it dead on. PR is large enough to have a community, small enough that people can know you.

What made you choose gunslinger as your first character? How did you manage to successfully avoid the allure of the lightsaber?

Funnily enough, I don't actually like playing Jedi-type characters. Too celibate and goody-two shoes. I very much prefer the atmosphere behind the Smuggler type character. It's going to sound cliche, but I was definitely one of the kids who always wanted to be Han Solo and couldn't care less about Luke.

Of course, Kyle Katarn is one of my favorite EU characters, but in general I'm not too enamored with lightsabers.

That being said, I'll probably play Jedi characters after I finish up the Smuggler storyline.

Nice. I think smugglers are cool too. I definitely like cavalier ambiance around them, though at moments it is too stereotypical in the story (Much like the jedi). And yes Han Solo is the gold standard in that regard. In cloud City...'I love you' ... 'I know' ...

Sounds like you have been into the Star Wars lore/Games for quite a while. What got you hooked? Did you watch em  1,2,3,4,5,6 or 4,5,6,1,2,3?

I hope you don't mind the questions :)

re: Congrats to our newest Peacekeeper, Cyparissus!!

Questions are great!

The lines can definitely be a bit... lazy, but overall I feel like they did an alright job with the Smuggler storyline.

I watched the movies 4,5,6 then 1,2,3. I would definitely say that the original trilogy was one of the defining group of films for my childhood, along with Robocop and the Lion King. Since then I've played a variety of games and enjoyed reading some of the EU books. The Jedi Knight games, Rogue Squadron Games, and EAW are probably the best of the bunch that I've played. Oddly enough, I haven't played KOTOR though I know I have to. The Thrawn trilogy of books is definitely one of the best EU storylines.

re: Congrats to our newest Peacekeeper, Cyparissus!!

Welcome to your trial process for Pax Republica! Let's get started:

During this welcoming period you will have 14 days to complete some tasks that will acclimate you into the guild and help you decide if we are the right guild for you!

Then, there will be three days for guild members to vote on whether or not they believe you should be allowed to join.  Virtually no one gets voted no... usually by then someone that doesn't fit in has already been asked to end their trials.

(If you need your Trial to be extended a couple of days due to a trip, or a serious emergency, etc., please contact an Admin and be sure to let them know when you'll be back.)

If you have any questions during any phase of your trials, a lot of helpful information can be found HERE.

Please post in your thread whenever you complete a task.

Here are your tasks:

Complete √ 1. Update your profile here at Pax Republica with a forum Avatar. ***NOTE***- Your avatar cannot be one of the generic default avatars that GuildLaunch gives you. It should be something unique so that it's easier to associate your name with some kind of image, this allows us to get to know you better.

Complete √2. Make an introductory post in your specified class forum provided below. Please use it as a chance to introduce yourself to the family, as this is a more permanent area for people to get to know you (your own "personal area" on the forums, if you will) than your application thread.

Trooper Barracks - Smuggler Cantina - Consular Library - Knight Praxeum

Complete √3. Either your Guild Launch user name should be your "main" character name in SWTOR, or you should link your main character to your GL account. Here's how to do the latter:

  •  Go to User Profile (Your name) at the top right of the forums.
  •  Under Characters tab, go to Add Character, make sure you choose ToR for your game and The Galactic Republic as your faction. Create the name as your main character's name in SWTOR!
  •  Now that your character has been created, go to the Sites tab under User Profile.
  •  Under Forum Posting As Settings select your character and click Set Character to Post As.
  •  Finished!

Complete √ 4. Go over our Charter (our Rules and Regulations document) and be sure to post that you accept it. Please read it carefully BEFORE accepting. Click here.

Complete √ 5. Log on to SWTOR and whisper anyone of rank Justicar or above with your in-game name so we can add you to the guild. For a list of our rank structure and names of officers, please Click here.

Complete √ 6. Arrange and interview with an officer. The interview with be conducted in Teamspeak. The interview gives you the chance to meet with an officer and ask any questions you may have regarding your membership in the guild, and they will take the opportunity to get to know you better.

For a complete list of officers you can approach for an interview, Click here. It is YOUR responsibility to post in your trials thread that you need an interview and to let officers know what your schedule is so that they can offer to help you... or you can PM an officer to schedule your interview before Phase 1 is over. Please don't leave this until the last minute.

Complete √ 7. Group with Pax Republica members to complete 3 guild "missions". You must be in Teamspeak during these missions. A single mission is either:

  1. Two GSF battles
  2. One Flashpoints
  3. Two Warzones
  4. Half a PvE Raid (In other words, one raid attendance counts as two of these "missions")
  5. 30-45minutes of any other in-game activity (questing, etc.)

(Note: It is up to you to post here the different "missions" you completed and who was in the group(s).) The point of this step is to get in groups with Pax members to get to know them, and for them to get to know you!

► Voting Phase

8. Members will have 3 days to vote on whether you have passed or failed as a member, so sit back and relax!

While you wait to pass your trials, you should check out the entire forums if you haven't already.  If you're a raider, be sure to read all the PvE forums - raiding guidelines, DPS parses, etc.  You should post in the PvE forums a thread saying you're interested in raiding with your time availability, current gear level, class, talent spec, how many datacrons you've collected, if you have companion bonuses, etc. Same thing with PvP or GSF... post in those forums with similar information if you're interested!

This is also a time you can ask around about how to join our Pax Republica Facebook Group and our Pax Republica GroupMe Channels.

Good luck!

Oh! Cool beans, already started the transfer so I should be on the right server in like an hour. Of course, I'm at work, so I won't actually be on for like four hours.

Anyways, tasks 1 -  4 completed!

Ahoy ahoy! Welcome to Pax! You said that your toon is Lvl 11, so I assume you have alts or something? You seem to know the game well enough to be transferring toons, I doubt you only have the one. What other classes do you like to play?

re: Congrats to our newest Peacekeeper, Cyparissus!!

Hi there!

Yeah I originally played at launch but some life things came up and I had to take a hiatus. I got up to level 36 and did a fair amount of PvP and operations and the like before taking a break. I still have my level 36 character, I just wanted to start over to experience things again and get used to the changes (like free abilities! woo!).

I've only ever played a Smuggler, but in other MMOs I tend to go, in order of frequency, DPS - > Heals - > Tank. In Guild Wars I played Monks all the damn time. Man I miss that giant awful city of doom.

I did a flashpoint with Eosque and Coralec!

It was KDY. We did group finder for the conquest points, everything went pretty well. We ended up with four smugglers, which went surprisingly well and quickly.
