I'm looking at upgrading from a HD6770 to either a GTX760 or an R9-270x. What are peoples thoughs on AMD vs NVidea or should I just go with the best price?

Go with the better price. From what I've read, and I've read a lot these past few weeks, AMD has basically caught up to NVIDIA as they have cheaper cards with minimal loss in performance.
They may not last as long, look as good, whatever, but for the price, it's usually worth it at this point.

270x will do just fine honestly. The difference is really negligible. The price difference is drastically higher than the performance difference. The 760 performs .3 higher than the 270x. But that even depends on the game. In some games, the 760 does slightly better, in other games the 270x does slightly better. So in the end, the difference is really only in the price and what you prefer.
And I'd recommend Sapphire cards. I'm kinda brand biased right now when it comes to AMD cards. Cards with the Sapphire name have done really well lately in both quality and price.

Thanks for the input, as for brand I'm going to go with MSI since when you pair their graphics cards with their mobos you can unlock additional OC options through a VGA Boost (it could all be marketing hoopla too but the cards match my case theme as well). I think I'll go with a single card by October then look for a 2nd around Christmas and SLI/Crossfire whichever one I decide on.

UPDATE: Found a 270 (not x) for under $170 the 270x and 760 were in the $250+ range and Tom's hardware places it even with the x and 1 step below the 760. Below is a useful link from Tom's Hardware putting all the cards in order from Titan to Intel740. I found it helpful when looking at price increase versus performance gain. Amazon says I'll have it on the 12th.

Cool! Whatever you feel like. And the difference between the 270x and 270 aren't much either. I prefer MSI MB myself, but stick with Sapphire video cards. I'll be getting the VAPOR-X R9 280X to replace the HD 7850 that my PSU murdered when it committed suicide. That 7850 only had 1GB of V-RAM which is just enough to play TOR decently. I wanted to upgrade it eventually, just not like this.
And I was going to link that comparison along with some others, and had a computer malfunction (the reason I was running Memtest and was late for Ops).

Tom's Hardware is a great site. Every quarter the publish best graphics cards for certain price ranges. I prefer nVidia because some games code specifically for them. Honestly though you can't go wrong with either.

I think I was still running my 486 system in 98, I was probably looking at Tom's Hardware for info on the new Pentium 2 300 MHz chips. God I'm old.

Installed it last night in about 15 minutes, the thing is huge but looks cool. OC'd it to 1050 and ran a bunch of FP is Ultra settings with shadows on and never dipped below 60FPS.
