re: Got a new graphics card, opinions needed!!!!

hey all, a friend of mine at work sold me his graphics card for $50... admittedly, I don't know jack about computer tech so I don't know if it was worth it or not, but he needed the quick cash so I said why not? haha big grin so I was hoping you techy-freaks would provide some insight and opinions of what I just bought haha

on the box it says:

NVIDIA GeForce GT 520
PCI Express 2.0
DDR3 1GB
810 MHz Engine Clock
1620 MHz Shader Clock
1.2 GHz (600 MHz DDR 3) Memory Clock
400 MHz RAMDOC
64-bit Memory Interface

I haven't had the time to put it in or find out whether or not it'll actually be compatible, but will it be cool for ToR and all that good stuff?

It's alright, not too much better than an integrated GPU these days. Probably around the same power as a GTX 200 series or so, so I'm not sure how well it would run ToR. It wont be maxed, but lower settings should work.

Um I have a XFX Nvidia 9500 GT and system requirements lab says I'll be playing it above medium

If that is what you are running I recommend an upgrade. I have a 9800 gtx+ and it made me cry in PvP.

I agree with Matternous. A 520 wont get you 16xaa but it will probably get you above low settings.

re: Got a new graphics card, opinions needed!!!!

nVidia GeForce GT 520 got a passmark score of 345.

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

A Radeon HD 4870 has a passmark score of 1,743 & cost's $74.99

It's also ranked at number 1 for best value for money here.

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_value.html

With the Radeon HD 6850 being the "better card, but more expensive but still great value for money".

Also, $50 is very expensive for this card 2nd card.

Hope that helps a little!.

Found a benchmark review of the zotac version.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac/GeForce_GT_520/12.html

For crysis @ 1024X768 (all detail set to min) you would expect 10.4 FPS.

What graphics card are you using currently?, as it may be superior to this one (I could check for you if you unfamiliar with techy stuff).

Ay, the 9800 gtx is superior to the gtx 520 on almost all benchmarks.

wow thanks for the responses and those websites helped a lot, guess I'll need to find a Radeon 4870 or something haha big grin . Right now I think I have a stock Intel graphics 2000 in my computer, haven't made any tweaks to it as far as graphics are concerned at all haha.

Yeah, you will definitely need a new GPU for ToR. Like, it is essential for you to actually play the game :P

Ay,

If you can stretch to a 6850,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102908

That would be more than sufficient (Assuming your PC is compatible).

But from what I've read the cheaper 4870 can run skyrim on moderate settings (which is more demanding that TOR).

Sorry to be the harbringer of bad news Happy
