re: Welcome to our newest Peacekeeper, PolishRifle!

The application submitted by PolishRifle is as follows:

Quote:
Please look over this <a>thread</a> before starting your application.

Personal Questions

The following questions are aimed at helping us get to know you better as a person. Please be as detailed as possible, this means that we expect as much information as you can possibly provide us with.

Age:
32

Gender:
Male

Which country do you live in?:
United States

Which time zone are you in?:
GMT-5:00

Which of the following below would best describe your current occupation?:
Full-Time Job

Do you have the ability to pay monthly fees for SWTOR?:
Yes

What motivates you to contribute and to strive for achievement both in and out of gaming?:
From the gaming aspect I enjoy the immersiveness of today's games. Starting with an Atari 2600 I feel lucky to see games where they are today and have enjoyed the progression. I'm self motivated and always look at ways to improve myself mentally, and physically.

What are your strengths and weaknesses: In gaming? In real life?:
My biggest weakness applies to gaming and real life, time management. Having a wife, newborn, career, and insatiable appitite for gaming makes me very aware of the limitation of hours in a day.

What interests and activities do you enjoy spending your time on both in and out of game?:
In game I enjoy crafting a solo campaigns but am looking for a group to explore the social aspect of MMO's. I was in a guild since the pre-launch (Sarcastic Gamer) 80 members on the roster but rarely more than 2 logged on at a time when I play. Outside of SWTOR I enjoy playing with my daughter (1yr old) my wife and I play some Xbox Kinect games.

Pax Republica Questions

These questions are aimed at helping us figure out if you're Pax Republica material, so be as detailed as possible.

How did you hear about Pax Republica?:
Reputation on Twin Spears Server, PVP matches

Do you have a tendency to cuss a lot? :
I do but I'm also a professional and can keep it in check when appropriate.

What are your expectations of the members and leadership of Pax Republica?:
This is my first MMO so I'd like some help in skill development, advice on crafting for credits and I really need help in the PVP aspect. I have a good rotation for the solo content but I feel ineffective in PVP but it may be that I'm attempting to play my character differently then its intended. I would also like to be able to access the heroic and flashpoints that are level appropriate for me. I'm lvl 31 and only did 2 flashpoints so far.

What do you believe you can contribute to Pax Republica's community?:
I'm a quick learner and would be happy to assist new players and pass along what I've learned. I can understand the roles of a group and make sure I don't stray from what is expected of me in PVP and Flashpoints

What was it about Pax Republica that encouraged you to sign up with us, rather than with another guild?:
Like I said before my old guild was 80+ members but noone played when I was on. Pax Republica seems to have a good population at any given time from what I've seen. Also the guild website speaks to the dedication to the game and the members.

How do you deal with stress both in and out of game.:
I don't really get stressed in the game, its just a game and I play to relax.

A non-guild member approaches you in game and begins talking smack to you. How do you react?::
If its a troll I ignore it, some people just want to trigger a response.

You're in Ventrilo playing with other members but one member is being annoying, making silly noises and being obnoxious...what do you do? :
Ask once, then mute, last resort...ignore or turn of vent if I don't need it at the time. I've never used ventrilo so I don't know its limitations or settings. I do have a microphone though and am looking into a gaming headset.

Star Wars: The Old Republic Questions

What is your main character's in-game name?:
Amexa

What is your SWTOR forum name? Please also provide a link to your profile.:
PolishRifle http://www.swtor.com/community/member.php?u=922039

Are you currently a member of any SWTOR guild and/or clan?:
No

Have you previously been in another SWTOR guild? If so please include the Guild's name and your experience there.:
As stated above I was part of "Sarcastic Gamer" but the population was not on when I was so it felt like I was just playing solo all the time.

Have you ever been kicked from a guild for poor conduct, unruly behavior, or inactivity?:
No

Which of the following interests you most?:
Story

Which of the following interests you second most?:
Crafting

Which of the following interests you third most?:
Raiding

In relation to the guild.:
We work together

The following questions are to provide you with a quick insight regarding the trial requirements.

Which class do you intend to play?:
Jedi Knight

What Advanced Class (AC) do you intend to play for the above listed class?:
Sentinel

Do you acknowledge that activity is key to our community and that failure to contribute to the community(every week unless on leave of absence) could result in possible removal from the guild?:
Yes

Do you promise to act with maturity, friendliness and courtesy towards all Pax Republica Members?:
Yes

Do you acknowledge that you must complete all the trial requirements given to you by the Class Leader / Trial Director to become a full member?:
Yes

In the future, which position would you like to hold?:
Officer

Is there anything else you would like to include as to why we should accept you as an applicant to Pax Republica?:
I'm an older gamer that knows I have a lot to learn about SWTOR and MMO in general. I enjoy the game when I can but I'm looking to get more out of it from a social standpoint and better quest rewards. I log into the game daily and would be active in the forums as well as the game itself. I see there is a need for Gunslinger/Scoundrel and would create an alt and focus on that character if it would help in the long run.

And lastly, are there any questions about the guild you would like answered?:
I'm interested if you have some sort of crafting/trade system in place for the guild rather then buying and selling on the GTN. Also, what days/times are you most active. I play Wed/Thurs evenings east coast time regularly and between 8pm-11pm other nights when I can.

Have you re-read this application to ensure that there are no mistakes, and that our rules for applications are met?:
Yes

re: Welcome to our newest Peacekeeper, PolishRifle!

Hello Amexa! Thanks for applying and I think it was a pretty good application; I got a decent idea of who you are.

Questions:
-What made you choose Sentinel?
-What do you do for work in this new career?

And don't feel like you have to switch to Smuggler, play what you want to play!

re: Application follow up

For the last 4.5 years I've been a manager at a casino but I've finished up a Master's degree and will begin teaching college classes hopefully as soon as this summer on the side.

As for my character, I rolled a Shadow first and made it to lvl 25 and was having difficulty soloing and learning how to play a caster/stealth. I rerolled my Sentinel thinking that maybe melee was more my style and although I've felt a little more successful in the solo aspect, I'm not having success in PvP. It could be that I'm not playing the character as its meant to or just picking the wrong targets.

I love the story and intend to play through each classes story line to get everything I can from that aspect of the game.

re: Welcome to our newest Peacekeeper, PolishRifle!

Yeah, Sentinel is a squishy class, and you're not often going to be someone healers will heal since you're not a tank. But if you are with a coordinated group like us and focusing on the targets we're focusing, I bet you'll be fine!

I'll wait for other people to ask questions.

re: Welcome to our newest Peacekeeper, PolishRifle!

Hi Amexa! I chatted with you in game a little today, it was nice meeting you! So here's some questions for you:

You mentionned you weren't really good at drawing - is there any other form of art that you are good at, or maybe really appreciate?

Who's your favorite pony?!

re: Q&A

Some how the arts escaped my genetic code, my mother is a great artist and my father played music so I appreciate the forms but don't have the talent myself. I've been trying to see if those skills are just buried somewhere, I try drawing for my daughter and at least she can identify what I was trying to draw ( a horse, Elmo, elephant, etc.) My wife also has Rocksmith for the Xbox and I've tried playing guitar with no success so far.
I would say my best art form is carving pumpkins. This last year my family had a competition but everyone else used patterns and stencils. I went "freestyle" and had the funniest one, an X-Box 360 R.R.O.D. (Red Ring of Death for any non console gamers out there). I've also carved Mr. Burns from the Simpsons, and a Philadelphia Phillies logo for my wife.

My favorite pony is probably Clever Hans, a german horse whose owner claimed could do math. In the early 1900's People would ask it basic math questions and he would stomp his hoof for the correct answer. For years no one could figure out how it was done, anyone could ask the question not just the trainer, Hans even did it when his trainer was away. It turned out a psychologist was observing Hans and eventually learned that people would sub-consciously lean towards the horse after asking the question which would be Hans' cue to start stomping. When he reached the correct answer people would once again sub-consciously lean away or stand up which was Hans' cue to stop. The effect was later named the Clever Hans effect and is still referred to when studying observation methods in science.

But I bet you probably were looking for a Hasbro Pony name not an obscure science reference, so I'll go with Pinkie Pie because my daughter giggles every time she comes on the TV.

re: Welcome to our newest Peacekeeper, PolishRifle!

Nice app : ) I take it your wife is from Philly at least, if she's demanding Phillies Pumpkins? Our women take sports surprisingly seriously here, especially the Phils.

If you're looking for Sentinel PVP pointers there are a couple of us here that could probably help out with that.

It's a tough class to play, and melee has some inherent disadvantages that make it harder.

It's also a very gear-dependent class, you'll notice a big difference as you get your first set of Centurion gear and a little expertise.

Talent wise, it really doesn't become on par with the other ones until you hit level 40 and get your top tier talent either, because it's the skill that brings the entire tree together in pretty much every case.

I picked Combat spec, which is probably the weakest PVP spec in terms of raw numbers, but I can 1v1 just about anything that isn't a really good healer, and in a warzone you'll be really good at locking them down, even if you can't outdps their healing.

Depending on your spec there's probably a few people here who can help out with suggestions.

Nice to meet you : )

re: Q&A

I've seemed to have better success so far with the watchman spec then I did with combat but I respeced around level 23. I feel some of my limitation is with my rig (Pentium D 3.0Ghz and 4GB RAM on a 32 bit OS) I've seen a Core 2 Quad that is compatible with my mobo and may pick that up. SWTOR has brought me back to PC gaming, prior to this the last PC games I was playing were Morrowind, City of Heroes (for like 2 months), and Star Wars Galaxies (again for 2 months). Those MMO's bored me with the lack of story.

The wife and kid are out of town this weekend so I'll have plenty of uniterupted time Saturday to play. I hope to see some of you guys in the PvP zones.

re: Welcome to our newest Peacekeeper, PolishRifle!

Trial Phase 1: √ Complete
Trial Phase 2: In Progress
Trial Phase 3:

Welcome to your trial process for Pax Republica! Let’s get started.

During this trial you will have 7 days, starting 2/16/2012 and ending 2/23/2012, to complete seven tasks as part of Trial Phase 1.
Trial Phase 2 will consist of another 7 days.
Trial Phase 3 is the voting phase that will last for 3 days. During this phase members can cast their vote on whether you pass or fail.
Caution: If you do not log on to the forums and post within 48 hours of starting your trial you will automatically fail.
(If you need your Trial to be extended a couple of days due to a trip, or a serious emergency, etc., please contact an Admin and be sure to let them know when you'll be back.)

As you undergo these tasks, you will not only complete the steps necessary to become a fully functioning member of Pax, you'll also learn if Pax is the guild you actually want to join.

At the end of this trial your application will be re-evaluated for the final decision. Do not hesitate to send me a private message, email, or Skype message with any questions or concerns. Here are your tasks:

►Phase 1

√ Complete 1. You must update your profile here at Pax Republica with a forum Avatar.

√ Complete 2. You must make an introductory post in your specified class forum provided below.
Trooper Barracks - Smuggler Cantina - Consular Library - Knight Praxeum

√ Complete 3. Declare your In-game main character's name, your SWTOR Forums username, class and your advanced class in the Guild Roster.

√ Complete 4. You must contact either the Consul, an Arbiter, or an Envoy (preferably your Class Leader) and give them the necessary info for creating your Ventrilo account. PM them with your desired name and password.
Here is a link to a helpful thread with signature and Vent info: Click Here
(Note: Please keep your Ventrilo name the same as your Forum name.)

√ Complete 5. Go over our Charter (our Rules and Regulations document) and be sure to post that you accept it. Please read it carefully BEFORE accepting.
(Caution: You must complete this task within 48 hours of starting Phase 1.)

√ Complete 6. Log on to SWTOR and whisper your Class Leader with your in-game name so we can add you to the guild.
For a list of our Admins and their in-game names, please Click Here.

√ Complete 7. You must arrange an interview with either the Consul, the Arbiters, or an Envoy (again, preferably your Class Leader). The interview will be conducted in Ventrilo before your trial period is completed. The interview gives you the chance to meet with an officer and ask any questions you may have regarding your membership in the guild, and they will take the opportunity to get to know you better.
For a complete list of officers you can approach for an interview, Click Here.

►Phase 2

8. You must log on to Ventrilo and chat with the members while in-game.
(Note: Logging on to Ventrilo is mandatory, if you do not log in at least once a week, you will be given a strike.)

9. You must seek out and speak with 4 different people (2 officers and 2 regular members ranked Peacekeeper or higher) in Ventrilo about your application and potential membership within Pax Republica.
It is up to you to post here when this has been completed. You can speak to all four at once if able.
(Note: If you are having trouble contacting someone, send someone you'd feel comfortable chatting with a PM on the forums to see if they'd be available to speak with you.)

10. You must get together with 3 Guild members to make a 4 person group and complete either 1 Flashpoint with them, or 3 War Zones.
(Note: It is up to you to post here once this task has been completed.)

►Phase 3

11. Members will have 3 days to vote on whether you have passed or failed as a member, so sit back and relax!
Good luck!

re: Interview

I just wanted to see if anyone was available for my phase 1 interview tuesday or wednesday night. Do I need to schedule it or just jump on vent and ask an officer if they are free? Does anyone have a good recommendation for a gaming headset thats also able to be used for the 360 or do people just use desktop mics?

re: Welcome to our newest Peacekeeper, PolishRifle!

I should be on most of tonight, until about midnight or 1am Eastern, as well as Wednesday night. You can PM me to schedule it, but hopefully we just run into each other tonight. I'm not really familiar with headsets that work for both xbox and PC, but maybe google it?

re: Sub lvl50 Warzones Wednesday Night

Are there any lowbees or alts that want to do some PVP warzones Wednesday night? I'm available from 8pm-1am EST. I also wouldn't mind doing a Taral V run through if anyone needs to complete the flashpoint for their daily.
